No-exam life insurance

Who is eligible for fast-track underwriting, the process if you qualify, and what happens when you don't.

Most carriers now provide fast-track underwriting: for qualified applicants (usually under a certain age and requesting amounts below a specific limit), underwriters use your application, prescription records, driving history and related information rather than ordering a physical exam. Approvals sometimes arrive within hours. Our quotes specify for each product whether an exam is required, might be needed, or is not expected.

What it changes

No exam does not mean no verification. The carrier reviews your application, and a policy issued with false information can be challenged within the first two years. If the carrier's research uncovers concerns, they may request an exam or blood work; you can then choose whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Usually applicants under age 60, requesting amounts within the carrier's fast-track limit, with no significant health conditions and no tobacco use for a year or longer. Some carriers will use results from a recent doctor's visit with blood tests instead of ordering an exam.

If an exam is necessary, it typically takes 20 to 30 minutes, conducted by a paramedical professional who comes to your home or workplace in the San Jose area, and there's no charge to you. An exam often leads to a rate improvement if you're in good health, so it can actually be a positive step.
